Keeping Your Borescope in Peak Condition: A Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide for Maintenance Teams

QBH Borescopes are invaluable inspection tools that allow maintenance teams to visually examine the inside of machinery and equipment. However, like any precision instrument, borescopes require regular care and maintenance to keep them functioning properly. Following a thorough cleaning routine after each use can extend the lifespan of your borescope and ensure it continues providing clear, high-quality images. This article provides a simple step-by-step guide to cleaning and caring for your borescope.

Steps
    1. Review the manufacturer's instructions. Consult your borescope's operation manual for any specific cleaning directions. Make sure to use only approved cleaning agents.
    2. Blow out loose debris. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust or loose contaminants from the borescope tip and articulation section. This helps dislodge any material before manual cleaning.
    3. Clean the external sheath. Dilute isopropyl alcohol with distilled water at a 70/30 ratio. Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with the solution. Gently wipe down the control section, insertion tube, and any external optics at the borescope tip.
    4. Flush the interiors. Connect the borescope to a flushing system filled with isopropyl alcohol or optical-grade detergent. Pump the solution through the air, water, and suction channels to remove internal debris.
    5. Optional soaking. For more thorough internal cleaning, disconnect the borescope from the flushing system. Submerge only the insertion tube in a basin of isopropyl alcohol. Let soak 10-15 minutes.

    6. Rinse thoroughly. Flush all channels and submerge the tip in clean distilled water to rinse away any remaining cleaning solution. Dry with compressed air.

    7. Inspect for damage. Carefully examine the borescope for any signs of damage before storing. Check cables, controls, the insertion tube, and the tip.

    8. Store properly. Place the borescope in a clean case and avoid tightly coiling the insertion tube. Store in a cool, dry place away from dust, moisture, and direct sunlight.

Regular cleaning and careful handling will help maximize your borescope's durability and image quality. Be sure to consult your operations manual for model-specific care and maintenance instructions. Consistent borescope care is essential for critical inspection work.
